We’re proud to be an apprentice employer that offers a variety of exciting career choices. Our apprenticeship programmes feed a future pipeline of skilled individuals for roles across our business and offer fantastic career prospects. Each of our apprentices is passionate about learning and is driven to improve their capabilities and skills, with many promoted into more senior roles on completion of their programme.

Meet our apprentices - Cameron Manderfield

As a Product Development Apprentice within our Research & Development team, Cameron has made significant contributions to products now on retailers’ shelves while also leaving his mark on the business. He is a huge asset to Worksop where he’s based, and an outstanding ambassador for food and drink careers.

Cameron’s most significant project to date has been the launch of new Bisto Best Meat-Free Gravy, which he worked on from concept to launch, ensuring it earned vegan status in the process. He was involved in all aspects from developing the recipe, working with suppliers and working with pilot plant equipment making prototypes. He had to manage costs, quality, factory trials, first production and even artwork for the packaging.

Cameron is also responsible for tracking nutrition in multiple brands, keeping recipe details up to date so Premier Foods can accurately report improvements in the nutritional profile of its products, contributing to the company’s ESG targets on healthier products.

Meet our apprentices - Stewart Mead

Our apprenticeships aren’t just for those that are at the start of their career. Stewart completed a level 4 Project Management Apprenticeship with Exeter College to enable him to take on a new role within the engineering team at our Lifton site.

Stewart says: “It’s never too late to change your career – the power is in your hands. I have always been interested in engineering and realised that I could qualify while continuing to earn money through an apprenticeship. Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to learn new skills in a supportive environment.

“I’ve learnt so much and have developed my technical understanding, communication, time management and organisation skills. Not only did I gain an apprenticeship, but I now have a GCSE in Maths and English. It was a challenging prospect at first, but Premier Foods and Exeter College have really supported me through this.”
