Leading on farm animal welfare

Working in partnership with our suppliers to implement best practice
October 8, 2025

Farm animal welfare is a topic that often sits in the shadow of other supply chain sustainability focus areas and therefore does not get the attention it deserves. At Premier Foods we believe in the importance of working in partnership with our suppliers to ensure there is a strong approach to improving animal welfare across the wider supply chain.

We have consistently demonstrated leadership in this area earning top recognition in the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW) over a number of years underscoring a long-standing commitment to ethical sourcing.

Central to this success is Premier Foods’ collaborative approach with suppliers. The company works closely with its supplier partners to embed welfare standards and implement best practices. A notable example is our relationship with Rodda’s, a key dairy supplier to our Ambrosia creamery in Lifton, Devon. Milk from family-run farms is processed by Rodda’s and delivered to our Lifton site daily, ensuring traceability and high welfare standards throughout the supply chain. These farms prioritise low-stress systems and pay close attention to herd health and wellbeing to ensure the cows are happy and healthy.

You can learn more from one of the farmers who supplies Rodda’s and their commitment to animal welfare practices in the following video filmed at Glyn Crest Farm in Cornwall. Milk from this farm is supplied to Rodda’s and then onto Premier Foods.
