Mr Kipling mince pies to feature in BBC’s Inside the Christmas Factory

For the first time, popular BBC Two series Inside the Factory will be airing a Christmas edition. Presenter Gregg Wallace will be following how one of the most quintessentially British Christmas foods – the Mr Kipling mince pie – is made when he visits Premier Foods’ bakery in Carlton, Barnsley, the biggest mince pie factory in the world!

This year, the bakery is expecting to produce more than 180 million mince pies – the most ever. During the programme, Gregg is seen helping the team throughout the whole production process: unloading key ingredients, such as flour, sugar and sultanas, making the pastry dough, cooking the mincemeat (which is all made on site), baking, testing and packing the pies, and then loading them up in the lorry as they make their way onto supermarket shelves.  He’ll even attempt rolling his own Yule Logs… with varying success!

Simon Wood, Factory General Manager at the Carlton bakery, said: “Mr Kipling mince pies are a key staple of the British Christmas season, so it was a perfect fit for the programme. It was great hosting Gregg Wallace for a couple of days to show him how to make a batch of his own pies. As he found out, it’s not as easy as it looks!”

Inside the Christmas Factory will air on Tuesday, 20th December at 9:00PM on BBC2.
