Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

Our employees have shown they are ready, willing and able to walk the extra mile for a good cause recently by completing the Help For Heroes “Peaks Challenge.” The challenge formed part of our programme to raise money towards the two-year, £300,000 target that we have committed to achieve for our corporate charity partner, Help for Heroes by the end of 2012.

Interest in the cause has gotten employees all over the country engaged, and Site Manager for our Southampton Mill Kevin O’Leary even managed to get onto his local radio station this July to tell his community all about his fundraising for the Peaks Challenge. Kevin was one of brave employees taking on the gruelling 5 Peaks Challenge and was interviewed by Radio Solent together with his colleagues from Rank Hovis Southampton who are also involved in the mountain climbing event.

The radio piece was well received by the listeners and the Southampton employees alike, who responded to Kevin by helping him raise in excess of £2,300 for the challenge. Over 80 of our employees from various sites tackled the 1 Peak Challenge on Monday, 2nd July at Mount Snowdon and a further 3 teams, including our very own Group Exec, completed the 3 Peaks Challenge within 24 hours, with another 5 teams doing a 5 Peaks Challenge within 48 hours. Our Peaks Challenge initiative has to date has raised £21,500 which is an amazing achievement, so well done to everyone who took part!
