Investing in our future at our Carlton site

Our Carlton site has today opened a new engineering training centre for apprentices. The opening was attended by CEO, Gavin Darby and local MP Dan Jarvis.

The training centre is fitted with practice gear boxes, conveyor belts and other small scale food production equipment, providing a safe environment for Carlton's six apprentices to learn how to fix various sections of a production line.

It will also be used to upskill line operators so they can gain the skills needed to spot and resolve defects that may occur on their production line.

The centre is named after former Carlton engineer Andy Jowitt, who sadly passed away. He was dedicated in supporting the site's apprentices and as a huge Leeds Rhino fan the centre has been painted in his team's colours.

Commenting on the opening Gavin Darby said: “This centre is one of a number of initiatives we’ve invested in to develop the skills of our people. Apprenticeships are the best way to develop the engineering skills we need as they enable people to learn on the job as well as studying for a valuable qualification.”
