Charity & community

Supporting the communities in which we operate is a big part of who we are at Premier Foods. Our colleagues, and their friends and families, give generously of their time and their money to support charity and communities across the country.

Making a bigger impact together

As a business, we embark on two-year corporate charity partnerships to help us collectively make a bigger difference to a single cause.

Our recent partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support was our most successful charity partnership ever. macmillan_logo.jpg
More of our colleagues than ever got involved and, despite our company reducing in size and the challenging economic climate, we increased funds raised per colleague by 43%, showing an increasing level of engagement with our charity efforts.

We chose a tangible target to fund 10,000 nursing hours for Macmillan over the two-year period of the partnership, which equated to £250k. By the end of the partnership the huge level of engagement helped us together achieve a massive £320k, providing around 12,800 nursing hours for those affected by Cancer.

Our colleagues efforts included our Big 25 annual challenge where sites covered 25 miles in ways of their own choosing including rafting, cycling, walking and sky-diving. It all led up to a company-wide event - a hugely successful trek opened up to all colleagues, with all those taking part successfully completing the legendarily tough 25 mile Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.

Our suppliers also got involved, including at a hugely successful Suppliers Evening. And our customers and consumers even had a part to play, examples including when with Co-Op we organised a successful Cause-Related Marketing product with Mr Kipling French Fancies.

Our colleagues choose who we should support and currently that’s Cancer Research UK. There are a range of exciting events at our sites, offices and collectively over the 24 months of the partnership, and we look foreward to working together to exceed our £250k target for this excellent cause. We're particularly excited by our Aim Higher Charity Challenge 2015 - a combined 24 mile hike and 55 or 115 mile cycle over the Tour de France route in the beautiful hills of Yorkshire!

Acting local

All our sites and offices take an active role in many awspects of their local communities. There's too much to list it all. But to illustrate, we'll look at out our Lifton site, the home of Ambrosia.

Lifton support the local Lifton Primary School with site visits and educational activity around communication, conduct and collaboration, and work with the local Tavistock Mount Kelly College to help business students get to grips with the realities of a producing business.

They invite local businesses and suppliers in to present their services and meet one another to drive collaborative working. The site helped renovate the local Launceston Community Centre, which hosts many local groups including mental health support groups, groups for young mothers and childrens groups.

As well as supporting our corporate charity, Lifton also support the CHICKS national Children’s Charity, who have a retreat in Devon, close to the Lifton site, with fundraising and volunteering.

All of that is just one site! The reality is that supporting the community is simply part of who we are at Premier Foods.

Did you know?

Between 2012 and 2014 we raised over £320,000 for our corporate charity partner Macmillan.

Consumer thoughts

"(Sharwood's) We love both of these in this house. Had the chilli ones last night for tea alongside pork steaks in chinese 5 spice and salad. Yummy. We have them at least 5 times a week. Sometimes just for dinner on their own. For the plain ones I just add garlic, pepper and soy sauce, so delicious!!" Source: Facebook
