Responsibility

Charity & community

Supporting the communities in which we operate is a big part of who we are at Premier Foods. Our colleagues, supported by their friends and family, give generously of their time and money to support charity and communities across the country.

Making a bigger impact together

Together, we can make a bigger impact, so we elect to support a single corporate charity partner, chosen by our colleagues.

Since 2015 our charity partner has been Cancer Research UK (CRUK). When we began our partnership, we set ourselves an ambitious target to raise £250,000 in two years. Two years on and thanks to the dedication of our colleagues and the generosity of friends, families and suppliers, we've well and truly smashed that target to raise £350,000 and counting. It's our most successful charity partnership ever!

Some of the ways we've fundraised for CRUK...

  • In 2016 we hosted a company-wide charity challenge in the Welsh Brecon Beacons. Colleagues from across our sites came together, pledging to raise £250 each by trekking 24 miles or cycling 100 miles. Together they raised a phenomenal £50,000!

  • Some of our much loved brands including Bisto, Oxo, Ambrosia and Mr Kipling joined forces over Christmas 2016 to raise awareness in-store and online of CRUK's life-saving work to keep families together. The great British public got involved by sharing their family moments on social media (#yourfamilymoments). Through the campaign we made an additional donation to CRUK of £50,000.

  • CRM-R4L.jpgWe supported CRUK's Race for Life campaign in 2015 by partnering with Tesco to produce a limited edition pack of our Mr Kipling Viennese Whirls. We donated 10p from every pack sold to CRUK.

  • We hosted a charity fundraising auction, attended by our suppliers.
  • Our colleagues continually strive to achieve incredible things...

Acting local

All our sites and offices take an active role to support many aspects of their local communities. There's too much to list it all, but to illustrate, we'll look at out our Lifton site - the home of Ambrosia.

Lifton support the local Lifton Primary School with site visits and educational activity around communication, conduct and collaboration, and work with the local Tavistock Mount Kelly College to help business students get to grips with the realities of a food production business.

They invite local businesses and suppliers in to present their services and meet one another to drive collaborative working. The site helped renovate the local Launceston Community Centre, which hosts many local groups including mental health support groups, groups for young mothers and children's groups.

As well as supporting our corporate charity, Lifton also support the CHICKS national Children’s Charity, who have a retreat in Devon, close to the Lifton site, with fundraising and volunteering.

All of that is just one site! The reality is that supporting the community is simply part of who we are at Premier Foods.

Consumer thoughts

"(Sharwood's) We love both of these in this house. Had the chilli ones last night for tea alongside pork steaks in chinese 5 spice and salad. Yummy. We have them at least 5 times a week. Sometimes just for dinner on their own. For the plain ones I just add garlic, pepper and soy sauce, so delicious!!" Source: Facebook
