As Britain’s largest food producer we offer a range of opportunities across our business - in different functions and in different locations throughout the UK.
Marketing
Our brands are more famous than our company. Our marketing team develops and grows them, aiming to build consumers connection to and desire for them. Marketing activities can be broadly split into: insight - research and consumer understanding; positioning - determining target markets and key messages; communication - e.g. pack design, advertising; and product development.
Consumer marketing is one of our core competencies. After all, we are constantly growing and nurturing some of the UK’s favourite brands.
Sales
All businesses live or die by their sales record. At Premier Foods we have some of the most demanding and sophisticated customers in the world: UK food retailers, including Tesco, Asda, Co-op, Morrison, Sainsbury’s, Somerfield, Waitrose, Marks & Spencer and Pizza Hut. Our sales people negotiate with our customers to grow business together. To do this, they have to have a thorough understanding of our abilities and business-to-business marketing, which we call 'Category Management'. A healthy dose of competitiveness is useful in this discipline!
Supply Chain
Our supply chain is made up from a number of links, with each link being critical to the success of our business. The aim is to optimize quality, efficiency and customer service.
We normally talk of the supply chain beginning with the purchasing of our raw materials, which come from all over the world. It continues with a complex planning and scheduling process; then manufacturing at one of over 60 UK locations. In most cases, we are then involved in the logistics of delivering our products to our customers on thousands of trucks every day. Supply chain management is fast, furious and very challenging in this 24/7 world!
Food Technology
Food Technology is integral to the success and advancement of the business. Food Technologists work throughout Premier Foods, in areas such as new product development and quality control. Technologists have a good knowledge of food science and can improve food products in a commercial environment.
Finance
A job in finance is not just about 'bean-counting', although numbers will always be an important part of the job. Our finance managers need to have a good understanding of our business and its drivers so that they can help their colleagues manage risk, without stifling creativity. Financial managers have to handle and manipulate information systems, undertake scenario modelling and complete complex evaluations in order to support decision-making throughout the business.
Human Resources
Attracting, retaining and developing first class talent is a very high priority for Premier Foods as it is this which delivers competitive advantage to our business. Our Human Resources teams are critical to this process. Across our business we offer a variety of specialist and generalist roles.
Information Technology
These days, information technology impacts every aspect of our business. Our IT managers are responsible for keeping us up to speed and maintaining our competitiveness by ensuring the best possible knowledge management. It is not just about having the technical knowledge of hardware and software; it is about understanding how our business can use IT to empower people and meet their business objectives.
Engineering
Our skilled engineers design and implement the efficient systems and processes mainly within manufacturing and distribution environments. An academic knowledge of applied mathematics and science must be combined with sound judgement so that engineers are able to advise on new design, processes, systems and equipment. Engineering excellence is at the heart of our manufacturing capability.
