Saxa
Saxa is Britain’s biggest and favourite salt brand, with a 33% share in a retail market worth over £21m. It is available in: Table Salt; Sea Salt; and Rock Salt.
The Cerebos salt company was founded in 1884 in Newcastle. Their core brand “Saxa” was launched in 1907.
For thousands of years salt has been used as nature’s preserver for all food stuffs, as well as being nature’s way of adding flavour. It is the essential flavouring to most hot food dishes as well as being used for a variety of sauces and dressings.
Salt has recently come into a lot of criticism for health reasons. The recommended daily allowance is now 6g per adult per day. Reducing salt content in processed foods continues to be a key focus point for food manufactures including Premier Foods. Buying salt from retail outlets and preparing your own food is a good way of controlling your salt intake.
The most popular formats of salt are the “Posh” varieties such as Sea Salt and Rock Salt. Cooks of all abilities are increasingly using these varieties to add that special extra flavour to their dishes.
