Mr Kipling unveils new cakes inspired by the royal wedding

The hottest wedding of 2018 was without doubt that of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with millions of people tuning in to watch it on the big screen. Secondary to the anticipation over ‘the dress’, everyone was wondering what food and drink the happy couple would have been enjoying on the day and in particular what cake they would have.

The couple reportedly chose a three tier sponge, simply decorated and flavoured with lemon and elderflower, which perfectly befitted the elegance of the day. Mr Kipling has now taken inspiration from this popular flavour combination to create a bite-size version, marrying the sweet tang of cloudy lemonade with the soft floral notes of fragrant elderflower.

Elderflower is a growing trend across the UK, featuring heavily in cocktails, baking recipes, desserts and even loose teas and cordials. It certainly shows no signs of slowing.

Mr Kipling's personal take on the Royal wedding cake features a delicate lemon sponge slice, sandwiched with a layer of zesty lemon curd and topped with a lemon and elderflower icing. The pale green and yellow icing also complement each other perfectly for the upcoming spring season.

These little bites of luxury are perfect for impressing those impromptu house guests at the weekend or simply to give you a taste of the regal life.

The Mr Kipling Lemonade and Elderflower Slices are currently available at Tesco stores nationwide. Additional retailers will be stocking from March onwards.
