Young people, as good today as they have always been!

Our Mossend team have been helping school children and their families in their local community of Carnwath, by refurbishing the kitchen at a local youth club.

When the idea to help local children and their families in the local community of Carnwath, by refurbishing the kitchen at the local youth club came to Community and Charity Champion, Sheena Otley at our Hovis Mossend site, she had no idea just how well this idea would be received! Several colleagues from Mossend including Robert Dyet, Warehouse Operative, Gary Tobin, Vehicle Services and Drew Watson, Radial Driver got to work, planning the project, sourcing equipment, gathering volunteers and giving up their time and skills to start work on the refurbishment. Carnwath Community Youth Club work with many young people who are always enthusiastic and looking for new things to do, so the idea behind refurbishing the kitchen was to help provide a new appealing space with all the latest kit to host cooking workshops and develop a programme of healthy living and cooking skills for local schools, children and their families, including employees of the site. The team of volunteers at Mossend were keen to make the centre's dreams come true as they felt this would be of enormous benefit to Carnwath and the wider community, so the multi skilled bunch utilised their plumbing, joining and fitting skills to get the kitchen in, delivered a cost saving of £10,000 using their contacts to source discounted materials whilst also flexing some muscle to get the heavy work done! Without the help of everyone at the site, giving up their time and energy and calling in favours wherever possible, the community kitchen refurb, priced initially at £15,000 would not have happened, so well done to all our employees who got involved to make a difference!
