The heat is on for our employees

Take five employees who are a dab hand at cooking. Drop them into the kitchen of our Head Office. Add some of the company’s brightest culinary minds. And throw in some Power Brands for added punch. That has been the recipe for success for our new “Come Dine With Us” engagement programme for employees, which sees a group of five eager site staff visit our St Albans kitchens to cook up a storm and learn about our brands.

Marie Eades from Hovis in Nottingham, Sharon Watson from Hovis in Bradford, Roger Hill from Ashford, Neil Hardingman from Bury St Edmunds and Rachael Dewis from Lifton were picked out of the hat from over 50 applicants to don aprons and pick up pans to see how we develop and test recipe ideas. Orchestrating the day was Chung Yin Liu and Anthony Warner, development chefs, and Stephen Ager, kitchen manager.

The trio began the day with a masterclass in Premier Foods cooking, demonstrating how Loyd Grossman and Sharwood’s are used to create simple, tasty and nutritious recipes. The employees were then split into two teams and tasked with preparing their own dishes using simple everyday ingredients creatively. And after two hours of frenetic food fun, the teams emerged with their sample dishes – and the broadest of smiles. “They all had a terrific time,” said Chung. “Our challenge is to make sure new recipes are delicious, healthy and have real broad appeal. So we need to be creative and willing to try new things all the time. Today gave them all a real flavour of what we do here.” Well done to all the employees who got involved; the experience day will be run quarterly from now on!
