Premier Foods listed on UK National Pig Association wall of fame

Premier Foods has signed up to the National Pig Association’s (NPA) pledge on the protection of pigs and is now listed on its Wall of Fame.

We have signed up to the National Pig Association’s (NPA) pledge on the protection of pigs and is now listed on its Wall of Fame. We have committed to ensuring that all the pork products used or sold are sourced from farms that are compliant with the EU Directive 2008/120/EC which provides guidance on the minimum welfare standards applying to all categories of pigs kept for rearing and fattening. The NPA pledge requires that our suppliers ensure that no piglets are weaned from the sow at less than 28 days of age unless the welfare or health of the dam or the piglet would otherwise be adversely affected;
measures are taken to ensure that the animals do not fight and aggressive animals are kept away from the group to avoid injuries; and all pigs must be fed at least once a day and have permanent access to drinking water. Premier Foods believes that it has a duty of care to ensure that the pork, and pork products, that is sources are from suppliers who meet, or exceed, the minimum legal standards required as outlined in the NPA pledge.
