Our Kipling mince pies play starring role in BBC’s Inside the Christmas Factory

It’s all hands on deck in the run up to Christmas in our Mr Kipling bakery in Carlton, the world’s largest mince pie factory. The bakery makes over 43,000 mince pies every minute, 2.3 million every 24 hours, and a total of around 180 million for the Christmas season, a big slice of the more than 216 million mince pies we made this year.

And in BBC Two’s Inside the Christmas Factory programme, Presenter Gregg Wallace followed the journey of a Mr. Kipling mince pie. If you missed it, you can watch it on BBC iPlayer.

Gregg helped our Carlton team unload key ingredients, make the pastry dough and cook the mincemeat, which we make on site, using around 7,000 tonnes of sultanas, raisins and currants. Greg helped bake, test and pack the pies, and load them in a lorry for delivery to supermarket shelves across the country.
Simon Wood, Factory General Manager at the Carlton bakery, said: “Mr Kipling mince pies are a key staple of the British Christmas season. Our factory team really enjoyed showing Gregg how we do it and, as he found out, it’s not as easy as it looks!”

Thanks to all our colleagues at Carlton who made the programme such a success!
