Cooking up a storm and Feeding Britain’s Future

We've been cooking up a storm and impressing MPs with our committment to the Feeding Britain's Future campaign!

A parliamentary reception was held this week to mark the launch of the 2013 Feeding Britain’s Future campaign, which we’re committed to supporting this year by deliver a series of pre-employment skills training sessions as part of the National Skills Week in September. There are currently 950,000 unemployed people aged between 16 and 24 in the UK, and the aim of the Feeding Britain’s Future campaign is to give these people a helping hand in their quest to find a job and financial independence. It was first launched in 2012 when retailers and food manufacturers joined forces and offered 10,000 opportunities for young people to get some pre-employment skills training. Last year, Premier Foods provided pre-employment skills training across 10 of our sites and this year, all of our 30 sites will be involved. The reception was attended by over 40 MP’s, who were treated to some delicious steak and ale pies with Bisto Chef’s Specials gravy followed by strawberries and “Dream,” courtesy of Mark Rigby, Foodservice Executive Chef. Louise Eaton, Product Technologist, was also on hand to explain why we are supporting the campaign and her experience as a graduate, together with Ian Bowles, Head of Sustainability. Our CEO, Gavin Darby was also in attendance to show our support for this worthwhile initiative, which will see us deliver skills training for around 450 young unemployed people this year.
