My Role at Premier Foods
I head up a small team of chefs who work with all our brands but focus mainly on our Power Brands. It’s our job to come up with exciting ideas for new products and help turn those ideas into tasty food for consumers.
My role is really creative, as I get to develop new flavours and ideas for delicious new additions to our product offering. I get to travel frequently as I work across a number of sites, but am often found cooking in our development kitchens in St Albans and Worksop. A lot of time is spent working with our product development teams to bring ideas to fruition, always being mindful of food safety to make sure we deliver quality new products that meet consumer’s expectations.
As well as developing new recipes, I also work with Sales and Marketing to help sell our wide range of products to our customers. I oversee cooking demonstrations and tastings for all major supermarkets, presenting at food shows, to the media and at various industry events. I create recipes that use our products for websites, magazines and recipe cards. Often, I have to cook and style food for pack photography, magazine photography and television adverts. When I am asked to come up with ideas, I often start the search with chefs from Michelin Stared restaurants, or travelling abroad to look at new cuisine. I also work with teams within the business looking at new technologies, to see how they can help us improve the products we make
When I used to work in restaurants and hotels I would often cook for hundreds of people at a time, but now when I make a recipe it might be tried in millions of households across the UK. It is very exciting to work on such a diverse portfolio of brands, with such a range of different technologies and most importantly with brands and products that are extremely important to consumers.
