The Best in British Food

My role at Premier Foods

Paul

One of the best things about my role is that there is no typical day. I can be running projects at a number of sites across the UK, with a huge variety in scale and complexity. One day I could be managing minor process improvements to existing equipment and the next, installing new equipment and structures. I love the excitement of being involved in so many different and challenging aspects of the business and getting to interact with such a cross functional group of people.

I have recently been working at our Avonmouth bakery catching up with the site team on the latest performance of a brand new automated ingredient handling system. I have been involved from the outset of the project, designing, procuring, installing and commissioning the plant.  Soon, I will be heading to the Nottingham bakery to take part in the strategy planning process and shaping our capital and investment programme.  Being involved with planning at this level really enables me to direct and drive the next projects that I’ll be working on, so I get a real sense of autonomy.

Variety really is the spice of life in this role and that’s what makes it so enjoyable. It’s not about sitting behind a desk doing single aspects of engineering. You get out there and get stuck in to get the best out of it and really see the benefits of the changes you implement.
