Job description

Apprentice Software Developer 
Based in Stoneham, near Southampton.
 
We're delighted to offer the opportunity for an Apprentice Software Developer to join our IT function at our Stoneham Site. 
 
The successful candidates will:
  • have a general interest in developing a career in the IT industry
  • have at least 5 GCSE’s (or the equivalent) at Grade A*-C, including Mathematics and English
  • have ‘A’ Level ICT
  • be computer literate (ie: knowledge/experience of Microsoft Word packages)
 
This is an 18-month apprenticeship programme role where the successful candidate will work as part of a small team, combining hands-on work experience with training in software development delivered by a specialist training provider
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • To learn and develop the key skills required to undertake Java & Javascript based development, using an open source technology stack
  • To build and test simple, high quality code for software and link to data bases
  • To support in-house developers with predominantly web-based applications using systems and data sourcing from (not exclusively): SAP, MS-SQL Server, MySQL and external sources
  • To carry out website maintenance using Kentico ems / .net api / and middleware development using either Mulesoft or IBM
  • To develop a basic knowledge of (AWS) Amazon Web Services environment
  • To support with the design and delivery of systems applications for:
  • Employees - Intranet and Applications
  • Customers  - Extranet
  • Consumers - Websites
  • To work as part of project teams, supporting with various aspects of the project management / development lifecycle
  • Once trained and to a proficient level, support with development of existing applications
  • To support with elements of Data Management and Database work
  • To support with the design of processes and systems
  • To carry out relevant testing of new releases and mechanisms
  • To complete all relevant documentation as per process required
