Job description

Specification Food Technologist – Bought In Factored Goods
Based in Carlton, Barnsley
Our Carlton site is where we make Mr Kipling and Lyons Cakes, it’s also the home of our Specifications team – the people who make sure we have the correct technical information needed for our products.
We are looking for a Specification Technologist to join this busy and passionate bunch of foodies.  You’ll be responsible for requesting, uploading, reviewing, approving and writing specifications for finished products supplied to Premier Foods for both sweet and savoury areas using Hamilton Grant.
Key roles and responsibilities…..
  • Ensuring all necessary and accurate legislative information is incorporated into the Hamilton Grant BIFG Specifications.
  • Ensuring all necessary information is completed fully and accurately in the Hamilton Grant BIFG specification by the supplier so as to enable the generation of a pack copy document and product label which meets with all relevant legislation.
  • Writing BIFG specifications on behalf of suppliers generating the recipe information, ingredient declaration, nutritional and allergen information and ensuring accurate and legal and compliant with all relevant legislation.
  • Ensuring all necessary information is presented in a pack copy format so as to enable the generation of a product label which meets with all relevant legislation.
  • Liaising with Factory Technical, Hamilton Grant System Manager, Procurement, Regulatory, NPD, NAM’s, TAM’s, Marketing, Technical Supplier Managers and Project Managers so as to ensure products are compliant and the correct data is used to complete customer and branded specifications and the generation of pack copies.
  • Checking and approval of artwork.
  • Working with and training the third party manufacturing sites to ensure that they complete the Hamilton Grant Specification to the required ‘Gold Standard’.
  • Answering enquiries and provide technical information including allergen, country of origin, shelf life and nutritional information etc when required.
  • Maintaining Datapool/UDEX systems and other customer databases as required.
  • Maintaining and managing changes that have an impact on the Branded and Retailer specifications and/or back of pack information. 
Experience and qualifications needed……
  • Ideally a Food Science/Technology Degree / Qualification
  • The ability to manage and input data accurately and efficiently
  • Experience of Hamilton Grant / Retailer Specification Portals
  • Knowledge of finished product requirements and specifications
  • Working knowledge of related food legislation
